WXYZ: TV Engineering

Born: October 18, 1914; Died: April 14, 1999

Paul Jantke was WXYZ-TV’s “TV remote supervisor.” At the time, WXYZ’s chief engineer was Charles Kocher, and Jantke was one of the station’s engineering supervisors.

There is evidence that Jantke was involved with radio even before television. A 1940 amateur-radio call book lists: W8GZD

Died at age 84 on April 14, 1999. Beloved husband of Irene (Fiori). Son of the late Paul Sr. and Kathrine. Brother of Kathrine Weber. Visitation Thursday after 5 p.m and Friday after 1 p.m. at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack at Vernier Grosse Pointe Woods. Instate Saturday 9 a.m. till Mass 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Rosary Friday 7:30 p.m. Retired from WXYZ Channel 7.

In 1952, an IBEW article identifies him as WXYZ’s TV Remote Supervisor. It also describes a complicated WXYZ remote broadcast from a Chevrolet plant in which the remote truck had to be transported into the plant on a railroad flatcar. Jantke would have been one of the people responsible for those remote operations.
