Jim was an inspiration and encouraged me to be me. As I mark my 45th year in radio, I have been looking up those I had lost contact with/worked with. I searched for Jim and this page came up. I was so sad to see he had left us. I had watched some videos over the years when he was with Casey Kasem and Dick Purtan, and was so glad he was doing what he loved. Jim, thank you for what you did… and did it so well.

Dear Kathy , I dont know if this will actually get to you personally, but hopefully someone will pass this message on to you.
So sorry to hear of the death of your brother Jim. Ochs. I live iway up north in Gaylord, Mi. and met Jim through a gal I was babysitting for., he was her neighbor. I had an immediate crush, but it was not meant to be. Jim had plans to move back down state and he kindly informed me of this. l believe he was 24/25 at that time. He was working at a radio station that was in the second story of a grocery store called Glen’s Market.I didn’t get to know him as well as I wanted as he did move. He was a fun & kind man who took time to drop by occasionally to visit with a single parent mom & her family. That was way back around 1974-75.
I was thinking about Jim, so decided to do a Google search this morning, lo & behold there he was , I watched the dynasty video. Also found so regrettably he had passed in December. I’m so sorry, I also lost my brother to lung cancer March 2, 2017. Please accept my deepest condolences. He was a good man and as you know, very well respected & loved.
Sincerely,
Deb Moyer

Jim was an inspiration at AHS and later at WEMU-FM in Ypsilanti, where we both worked. I graduated in 1970. one year younger than Jim. We were in choir, West Side Story, South Pacific and of course, his lead during Calamity Jane!
I just wanted to say, what a great thrill it was to see him two years ago in May when I went back for sisters funeral. He and Glenn Watring, Jim Hutchinson, met at John Kuschell’s house to get together for the first time in 30 some years I’ve seen Jim. That was a very special evening. I loved that Jim. As I said, he was a real mentor and great announcer/DJ music/sports guy! We loved the Tigers and Ernie Harwell and George Kell whom we used to spoof all of the time! Again, so many people loved Jim, his friends and anyone who came in contact with this brilliant voice, radio artist! Dwight Loop. XXXXXXXX cell. [Editor: Phone Number/Email Forwarded]

Thank you Kathy for the update. So many of us at WXYZ loved your brother. He was a member of a great family here at the station. A star in heaven will be very much brighter this Holiday season. With love, Terry Pochert, website editor.
