  1. I was interviewed by Jack back in 1980 or 81 on Belle Isle at the Gold cup races. Apparently the show was aired on that Sunday evening news and I was not able to watch it or ever see it. My friends and I had 90 homemade shish kabob on the grill and he happened up and tasted the food and interviewed me for about 2 minutes on how we made the kabobs and about how long we have been coming to the races.

I am Jack’s son. He passed away in October of 2023 at my home in Florida. If you Google his name with WXYZ you should find a press release/obit.
He covered the ’67 Riots for WJBK and his reports were used extensively by CBS shows during the 50 year anniversary as well as in the movie that came out directed by Bigelow.
He was then the first person hired away to join WXYZ who also went and got his good friend John Kelly as well as Al Ackerman (sp?) and the others that became the most dominant TV news organization in the country.
After retiring and moving to Florida he would fly back once a month and film his McCarthy Menu’s for WJBK. He did his McCarthys menu for a station in Midland/Bay City and for BayNews9 in Tampa where he also anchored. He also did fill in anchor/reporter work for a DC station.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or memories.
