Rick Todd says
I remember WXYZ reporter Jim Herrington during the 1967 Detroit riots. I was a Guardsman stationed at Central high school where I was able to see Jim nearly every day and witness his fearlessness. He was everywhere and always covered the hot stories by being in front. He talked to endometrial and everyone without any fear. To a man, the other reporters waited for the cops to be present, not Jim. We spoke once or twice briefly during the first week and I found him to be very real and without fear. I never witnessed this in his peer group. A nice guy that did a thorough job. He was never intrusive, but always got the story correct. Generally exact, unlike the reporters from the Detroit Free Press. They were always behind the cops and wrote “assumed opinions”.

Thank you for your kinds words about Jim Herrington. As video tape editing supervisor and friend of Jim’s, I realized I was working with a “real” reporter. Now as I collect various photos/videos, I do miss him. Have a great holiday and a blessed New Year. Terry Pochert (now editor of the Broadcasting Vault).
